
Keeping Your Class 100 Cleanroom Actually Clean
When you’re working in a Class 100 environment, the last thing you need is your heating element acting like a confetti cannon. Standard heaters tend to flake or “outgas,” and if a single microscopic particle lands on a silicon wafer or a precision lens, the whole batch is trash. That’s why we use high-purity synthetic quartz infrared lamps.
Why the quartz matters
We use a specific kind of fused silica. It’s pure. Really pure. That means when you crank up the heat, you don’t get those annoying volatile organic compounds (VOCs) leaking into your air. And unlike basic glass, this stuff doesn’t just snap when the temperature swings wildly. Before these lamps even leave our shop, we strip every single contaminant off the surface. When you flip the switch, the only thing coming out of that tube is infrared radiation. No dust. No smoke. Nothing.
Getting the heat right
The amount of heat you get comes down to your voltage and wattage. If you pack a high-wattage lamp into a small space, you’re going to get a massive blast of heat. It’s great for curing things fast, but it puts a lot of stress on your chassis. Just make sure your cooling fans and heat sinks are up to the task, otherwise, your housing might start to warp. Most of the time, we just build these as drop-in replacements. They’ll fit right into your existing bench setup and play nice with your current power rail.
A few tips on install and upkeep
We use gold-plated or high-grade nickel connectors. Why? Because oxidation is a nightmare. It creates resistance, and resistance creates heat—exactly where you don’t want it (at the terminals). Using these materials keeps your connectors from burning out. One big warning, though:Quartz is fragile. Please, don’t touch the tubes with your bare hands. The oils from your skin create “hot spots” on the glass, and that’s a one-way ticket to a cracked tube. Grab some lint-free gloves. If you get a fingerprint on the quartz during installation, the lamp will probably die way before it’s supposed to.
