
Getting Your Bathroom Heat Just Right
Bathrooms are tricky. Between the steam and the splashes, you can’t just throw any heater in there. That’s why we build our infrared lamps with an IP44 rating. In plain English? They’re designed to handle the moisture of a wet room without causing a disaster. But the real trick is picking the right wattage. If you go too big, you’re just throwing money away on your electric bill. Too small, and you’re still shivering when you step out of the shower. Finding the Sweet Spot Think about the size of your space. If you’ve got a tiny powder room (under 4m²), a single 250W to 400W lamp is plenty. It’ll keep you warm without breaking a sweat. Now, if you’re dealing with a big master bath (around 8m² to 12m²), you’ll probably want a few units or something beefier, like a 600W+ lamp. Here’s the thing: infrared doesn’t really “warm the air” like a space heater does. It warms you and the walls. If you cram a 1000W lamp into a tiny stall, you’re going to create a localized heat pocket that feels like a sauna. Plus, the lamp will cycle on and off too often, which just wears it out faster. The Trade-off with Waterproofing To get that IP44 rating, we have to use sealed gaskets and reinforced housings. It keeps the guts of the lamp dry and safe. But there’s a small catch. Because the lamp is wrapped in a protective casing, the heat doesn’t spread quite as wide as it would with a totally open element. It’s a tiny dip in efficiency, but it’s something to keep in mind when you’re figuring out how much heat you actually need. A Quick Word on Wiring Before you start drilling holes, double-check your circuit. If you decide to put in three 600W lamps, that’s 1.8kW hitting one circuit. Make sure your wiring can handle that load without getting hot. If you’re going for a high-wattage setup, I’d honestly suggest a dedicated circuit. It’s a bit more work upfront, but it beats tripping the breaker right in the middle of your morning routine.
