
Getting the Light Right in Bathroom Heaters
When we’re building infrared lamps for the bathroom, the biggest headache isn’t actually the heat. It’s the light. Most standard short-wave lamps are just too bright. They’ve got this harsh, blinding glare that’s a nightmare for your eyes—especially for babies, whose eyes are way more sensitive than ours. Nobody wants to feel like they’re staring into a spotlight while they’re trying to relax or get a kid ready. So, we changed how the light works. Saving your eyes We use specific coatings and gas fills to basically “block” the blinding white light and those nasty UV rays. Instead, we push the energy into the medium and long-wave bands. The result? You get all that cozy, radiating warmth on your skin, but without the glare. It’s a much softer experience. You feel the heat, but your eyes don’t feel the strain. The guts of the machine Inside, there’s a tungsten filament tucked into a high-purity quartz tube. We chose these tubes because they can handle being turned on and off quickly without cracking under the pressure. We also spent a lot of time on the reflectors. Instead of creating one scorching “hot spot” that could actually burn you, we angled them to spread the warmth evenly across the floor. It feels more like a warm hug and less like a heat lamp at a buffet. A few things to keep in mind Here’s the trade-off: because we’re filtering out that bright light, the lamp isn’t as “bright” as a standard one. But that’s exactly what we wanted. Just be careful with where you hang it. If you mount it too low to try and “feel” more heat, you might actually overheat the floor or the surface below. Stick to a height of at least 2.2 meters. It keeps the temperature safe and steady. One last tip: give these units their own dedicated circuit. They pull a lot of power the second you flip the switch, and if you’re in an older house, that’s a quick way to trip a breaker.
