The size of your room tells you exactly what you need. If you’ve got a tiny powder room (under 4m²), a 400W to 600W unit is plenty. Go any higher and you’ll basically be stepping into a sauna, which just wastes electricity. For those medium-sized bathrooms (4m² to 8m²), look at 800W to 1200W. You’ll see “IP55” on the box. Don’t ignore it. In a bathroom, steam and splashes are everywhere. This rating just means the guts of the heater are sealed tight so moisture doesn’t get in and fry the electronics. One more thing—watch where you mount it. Short-wave infrared heat is like a flashlight beam; it’s concentrated. If you put a 1500W lamp too low, it can actually burn your skin. Give yourself some ceiling clearance. It lets the heat spread out and feel like a warm hug rather than a heat lamp at a buffet.
Speed vs. Your Electric Bill
A high-wattage lamp is great if you want the room warm the second you flip the switch. It’s instant. But there is a catch. Those big units pull a lot of power the moment they kick in. If your house has old wiring, a massive heater might just trip your breaker and leave you in the dark. If you’re not sure about your wiring, stick to the lower-wattage stuff. It’s safer and keeps the lights on.
